Overview
Produced exclusively for the Japanese market as a ’75 Jazz Bass reissue, this bass is straight out of a time capsule. Period appropriate features include a natural finish beautifully figured ash body, vintage spec 7.25-inch radius maple neck, 3-bolt neck joint with micro-tilt mechanism, creme neck binding and pearloid block inlays, head-side bullet type truss rod nut, and large trapezoidal tuning peg plates. It is likely this bass was made by Tokai Gakki given the serial number and stamping on the parts.
The beautifully crafted maple neck is a svelte, easy playing C-profile with .82” depth at the 1st fret, 0.96” depth at the 12th fret, 1.5” nut width and 2.22” 12th fret width. The gloss finish on the neck is smooth and flawless. The fretwork is outstanding and low action is possible if that is your preference.
Whether plucked, slapped, or picked, the tone from the JB75-90US is excellent, with plenty of low-end punch and midrange clarity and cut. The US-made Jazz Bass single coil Jazz single-coil pickups are the same as those used for the American Standard Jazz, offering excellent focus, growl, and clarity from the bridge pickup, and round low end depth and thump from the neck pickup. Controls are traditional neck volume, bridge volume, and master tone.
