Description
Set aside price range, brand image, or whatever preconceived notions you might have when you pick up a new instrument. Just pick this bass up and play. This bass has all the ingredients to remind you why you started playing music in the first place. It feels great. It sounds great. It’s fun. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. It’s crazy how much value and build quality Bacchus packed into this series of instruments. This bass comes from the Bacchus Global line made in the Philippines at Bacchus’ own factory under the watchful eye of Japanese master luthiers. Just like the made in Japan instruments, this bass shows exceptional attention to detail, craftsmanship, and playability well above its original price point. There is a personality and vibe that is both familiar and distinctly Bacchus. The made in Philippines Woodline series instruments are now discontinued and are getting more difficult to find in good condition.
The Global Series WL-434 is very popular as an intermediate grade instrument but can be enjoyed by players of all experience levels. This model is based on Bacchus’ top-of-the-line WOODLINE model and is much closer in build quality to Bacchus’ made in Japan Craft Series instruments than would be expected.
The maple neck sports a maple fingerboard with fantastic fret finishing for this price range. Bacchus works “neck magic” across its whole range, and this instrument is no exception. The neck is like a well-worn old friend, C-shaped but leaning towards D, with 1.5-inch width at the nut. It offers great comfort and playability across the whole neck. I’ll say it again: the neck on this instrument is top notch in this class. The all-maple construction gives a nice bite and focus to the sound. This instrument has a nice elasticity and punch to note definition, is responsive to touch, and has plenty of headroom as you dig in. It is noticeably resonant even unplugged. While it can do the clean-and-friendly-bass-for-all-seasons thing, and is well-balanced across low, mid, and high frequencies, it really shines with aggressive rock tone. Whether picked or plucked, this bass can snarl. Plug it in to a driven tube amp and crank it to 11.
This bass is in very good shape overall and weighs in at a reasonable 8.4 pounds. All wear on this instrument really looks more like the start of some aging or relic finish than unsightly damage. I have captured notable wear in the pictures. It is mostly on the bottom of the lower bout where you wouldn’t normally see it. The neck shows no signs of warping or waviness, and the frets show few signs of wear and have plenty of life left. Truss rod operates as it should with plenty of adjustment room in both directions. This bass is fantastic to enjoy just as it is but also offers a lot of room to grow if you want to upgrade electronics around the class leading build quality for the neck.
Let us know if you have any setup or string preferences and we will be happy to accommodate if possible prior to shipping the bass. Aria Pro II 45-105 roundwound strings are currently installed. This bass is set up bass for medium-low action (around 2mm E). The neck is adjusted for optimal relief, pickup height has been set, and intonation is dialed-in up and down the neck. This bass includes a good condition padded Bacchus gig bag.
Ask any questions you may have prior to purchase; we will be happy to provide any additional details available. To make your purchase experience as enjoyable as possible, Prof. Nigel’s never sells any instruments we wouldn’t be proud to own. A great deal of effort and care are put into selection, cleaning, setup, photography, description, packing, and shipping every instrument. We want to ensure you receive the instrument as expected, ready to enjoy for years to come. Please allow 2-3 days for packing and shipping after placing an order.
