Overview
The “WINDY” model is the successor to the popular offset-bodied “SURF” model in the RSM series. The two P-90 type pickups, TOM-style bridge with stop tailpiece combine to give this model a crisp and powerful attack. As with all Bacchus instruments, fit, finish, playability and tone is superb for the price point. Bacchus achieves this amazing feat through strict quality control oversight by Japanese master luthiers and stringent selection of high-quality materials. This guitar feels much livelier and more responsive than would be expected from a guitar at this price point. There is a notable smoothness and complexity to the midrange, with a heft and fullness to the tone. It retains a punchy, defined low end while still having midrange clarity. This is a very expressive instrument that is difficult to put down once you start playing.
The 25.5-inch scale roasted maple neck has a fantastically smooth satin finish, lovely flame maple figuring, and very comfortable modern-C profile. The high rigidity of the neck makes it less prone to warping and waviness. If you are not familiar with roasted maple, the wood is heated at high temperatures to volatilize the moisture and oils in the wood, thereby increasing its rigidity. The resulting sound is a rich, organic sound with a vintage-like tone that is reminiscent of an instrument that has aged its sound with time and usage. Fret finishing is excellent for this price point, with no evidence of rough edges or fretboard marring.
Nato, or Eastern Mahogany, is used for the body. Nato offers warm and complex tonal characteristics similar to regular mahogany, and was a favorite tonewood for many excellent vintage made in Japan instruments. The metallic “LPB” paint is just a hair darker than Fender branded counterparts and looks quite sharp on this instrument with the mint 3-ply pickguard. This guitar has been set up with medium action, optimally adjusted relief, and dialed in intonation across the fretboard.
