Why we love it

This bass has all the ingredients to remind you why you started playing music in the first place. It sounds great, feels great, and is fun to play. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Bacchus packed tons value and build quality into this handmade series of instruments. Warm, punchy J-bass tone ready to tackle any genre.

Condition

This bass is in Very Good condition. There is some wear on the bottom of the lower bout and one small chip on the headstock captured in the photos. The prior owner replaced the vintage style bridge (included) with an aftermarket Gotoh style bridge. The neck shows no signs of warping or waviness. The frets show few signs of wear and have plenty of life left. Truss rod operates as it should with plenty of adjustment room in both directions. The electronics all function as intended. This WL-434 weighs in at 8.8 pounds.

Overview

This bass comes from the Bacchus Global line handmade in the Philippines at Bacchus’ own factory under the watchful eye of Japanese master luthiers. Just like the made in Japan instruments, this bass shows exceptional attention to detail, craftsmanship, and playability well above its original price point. There is a personality and vibe that is both familiar and distinctly Bacchus. The made in Philippines Woodline series instruments are now discontinued and are getting more difficult to find in good condition.

The Global Series WL-434 is very popular as an intermediate grade instrument but can be enjoyed by players of all experience levels. This model is based on Bacchus’ top-of-the-line WOODLINE model and is much closer in build quality to Bacchus’ made in Japan Craft Series instruments than would be expected.

The maple neck sports a Techwood fingerboard with fantastic fret finishing for this price range. Bacchus works “neck magic” across its whole range, and this instrument is no exception. The neck is like a well-worn old friend with a fast modern C-profile with 1.5-inch width at the nut. It offers great comfort and playability across the whole neck. Tonally, the Techwood fingerboard is reminiscent of rosewood, bringing some warmth and balance to the bite and focus of the maple neck. This instrument has a nice elasticity and punch to note definition, is responsive to touch, and has plenty of headroom as you dig in. It is noticeably resonant even unplugged. The tone knob doubles as a series/parallel switch for “Turbo mode”, running the two single coils like a humbucker, and providing additional tonal flexibility.

Let us know if you have any setup or string preferences and we will be happy to accommodate if possible prior to shipping the bass. D’Addario EXL 45-105 roundwound strings are currently installed. This bass is set up bass for medium action (around 2.5mm E). The neck is adjusted for optimal relief, pickup height has been set, and intonation is dialed-in up and down the neck. This bass includes a good condition padded Bacchus gig bag.
