Description
Bacchus TF5-STD Burner Red Oil
Why is it special?
This beautiful Bacchus TF5-STD was hand crafted with incredible attention to detail in Japan. Part of the Bacchus Craft series of instruments, the TF is a more recent incarnation of an older Bacchus masterpiece, the Twenty Four. The made in Japan Craft series and most of the regular production Handmade series have been discontinued, so these instruments in great condition are becoming rarer to find by the day. This bass is comfortable, fast, fluid, and offers a boutique playing experience and tone at a very reasonable price. This might be our favorite all-around bass from Bacchus.
Condition
This bass is in Excellent overall condition with few signs of prior use. There are some marks in the body near the neck pickup. There is a rough spot in the finish near the upper cutout you can feel more than see. The metal hardware has developed a light patina. The electronics are in good condition and function properly. Frets show little sign of wear. The neck shows no signs of warping or waviness. The truss rod is buttery smooth and in good working order with plenty of adjustment left. There are no noticeable signs of modification. The action is set low (1.5 mm E) with no buzzing. Let us know if you have setup preferences prior to shipping.
Overview
Roughly based on a traditional jazz bass body design, the lower cutout of the TF and contoured neck heel ensure you can reach all the way to the highest frets this bass has to offer. This bass features an burner ash body finished in a gorgeous, satin smooth red oil finish. This bass weighs in at 9.8 pounds and is quite balanced in use.
The D-shaped maple neck is a joy to play whether laying down a groove on the lower frets or soloing up high. Atop the maple neck is a matching red headstock and high-quality open gear made in Japan Gotoh GB10 tuners. Bacchus uses Richlite for the fingerboard that looks and feels great. Bacchus’ dedication to crafting fine instruments is readily apparent when playing this bass. The playability is astounding for this price range and competes with many much more expensive instruments.
Electronics and Tone
The TF5 is equipped with Bacchus Original humbucking pickups which provide a tight, focused sound even in passive mode. Kicking in the 18v Aguilar OBP-2 active circuit adds some serious beef and punch if you start rolling in the bass. The treble EQ provides smooth, articulate detail. There is also a tone control for the pickups for use in passive mode. The B-string has good focus and is very usable. This bass provides a ton of tonal flexibility and could be at home in just about any musical setting.
The TF5 doesn’t just offer great value, it’s a great bass, period. It will arrive ready to rock out of the box. It has been inspected and set up, including cleaning, string replacement, truss rod adjustment, intonation, and string height adjustment upon arrival here at Professor Nigel’s.
