ESP Edwards E-AK Silver Sparkle

Why we love it

We are big fans of sparkle and metal flake finishes around here and couldn’t resist this beauty, especially in mint condition. If you’re in the market for a head turning 4-string bass, look no further. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it has incredible build quality and plays and sounds great, as is par for the course with ESP instruments.

Condition

This bass is in Mint condition with no notable signs of prior use. This bass has been carefully inspected and there do not appear to be any chips, scratches, dings, or other signs of use. All hardware and electronics function as intended. The factory protective film is till on the pickguard and tuning keys. Also, please look closely at the pictures of the pickguard. It is not blue and scratched but has a blue protective film over the mirrored pickguard which has never been removed. A stock image of this model has been included for comparison.

The neck shows no signs of warping or waviness, and the frets have near zero wear. Truss rod operates as it should with plenty of adjustment room. Let us know if you have any setup or string preferences and we will be happy to accommodate you prior to shipping the bass. This bass includes a very nice ESP gig bag with thick padding and neck support. It weighs in at 9.2 pounds.

Overview

Available now is this 2019 ESP Edwards E-AK Silver Sparkle in mint new old stock condition. If you are not familiar, Edwards is an ESP Japan-only cost performance brand. Edwards instruments are made in Japan by ESP and have exceptional build quality. This includes immaculate fit and finish, a real bone nut, Gotoh hardware, and Seymour Duncan pickups. The E-AK Silver Sparkle was a signature model for Aki, bassist and composer for the Japanese band SID, and is capable of seriously sweet rock and vintage tones in the neighborhood of a Fender Jazz bass.

The E-AK puts down a solid foundation and sounds great both fingerstyle and picked. According to Seymour Duncan, the SJB-1 pickups “are a faithful recreation of the Jazz Bass single coils of the early 60s. Our Vintage Jazz Bass pickups stay true to the originals by capturing that warm tone with just the right amount of midrange… The neck model is full sounding, and brings in a nice, rich bottom end without being boomy. It is wound RWRP so that it will hum-cancel when used together with the bridge pickup. The bridge model is smooth and punchy and delivers a brightness that is a perfect balance for the warmer neck model.” I would agree with all of that and found the neck pickup to sound full without being flabby. It does a pretty good impression of a good quality single-coil precision style pickup when used solo. The bridge pickup adds a nice growl and definition without getting harsh. Mix and match as needed for any tone you might need to conjure.
