Description
Fender Japan Exclusive Classic 60s Jaguar 3-color Sunburst
Why we love it
From the last of the “Fender Japan” era comes this Exclusive Classic 60s Jaguar. The predecessor to the current Traditional 60s models, the Classic 60s version is closer to the original and has the majority of feel, tone, specs, and all the great style of the original 1960s Pre-CBS Jaguar.
Condition
This guitar is in Very Good condition. There are minor scattered scuffs, dings, and signs of use over the surface of the body, primarily around the edge of the body. There is light patina forming on some of the metal parts. We have attempted to highlight these in the photos. There is some fret wear, but nothing currently impacting playability or intonation. The neck is in great condition with no signs of warping or waviness. The truss rod works well with adjustability remaining in both directions. The electronics are in good condition and work as intended.
Overview
A rebranding of the Fender Japan JG66, this Exclusive Classic 60s Jaguar wasn’t around very long. While not an exact reissue, it’s closer than the current Traditional 60s version and packs a ton of features into its shorter scale package just like the original 1960s Fender flagship.
Alder is used for the body, as opposed to basswood in the current version, helping to provide classic tone as well as fantastic aesthetics due to the lovely grain showing through the three-tone sunburst finish. The 24-inch scale maple neck features a gloss poly vintage tint finish, vintage spec 7.25-inch radius rosewood fretboard with white dot position markers and 22 expertly finished vintage style frets. A 6-Saddle Vintage-Style Adjustable with “Floating” Tremolo Tailpiece is used in this model, offering smooth, responsive actuation. It has been set up with medium low action, optimal relief, and dialed in intonation. This Jaguar weighs 8.5 pounds. A new Fender FE620 gig bag and non-original tremolo arm will be included.
Electronics and Tone
Thanks to the Vintage-Style Single-Coil Jaguar pickups, there’s no shortage of snarl and chime for which this model is famous. The pickups have great articulation and clarity for strummed or picked chords or take advantage of the lovely top end for sparkling lead lines. Thanks to the circuit switching options, this guitar will take you from dark and meaty tones to thinned out sounds great for doubling and everything in between. All electronics function as intended. The Lead Circuit features individual on/off switches for each pickup as well as a bass cut (“strangle” switch) for those tic-tac style tones as well as the master volume and tone controls. The Rhythm Circuit has its own volume and tone wheels, on/off switch, as well as a tone cap dedicated to the neck pickup to achieve darker tones.
