Condition

This bass is in Very Good condition. There are scattered fine scratches and chips across the surface of the body. There are a few more notable dents, scrapes and chips around the perimeter of the lower bout and bottom front edge of the headstock. The frets show minor signs of wear (no significant wear spots) and have plenty of life remaining with no buzzing or dead frets. The truss rod is in good working order with adjustability in both directions. The neck is straight with no signs of warping or waviness. The tuners and control cavity cover have developed a very pleasing vintage patina. There are no areas of separation in the neck binding and the gloss finish on the neck is perfectly smooth. The electronics are in perfect working order.

This bass has been professionally set up with D’Addario EXL 110 strings, medium action with optimally adjusted relief, intonation dialed in up and down the neck, and pickup height set. This beautiful bass is well balanced and weighs 9.7 pounds. A brand new Fender FB610 gig bag is included. Hard case or FB620 gig bag available upon request, please send us a message for details and options.

Overview

A high specification rarity produced exclusively for the Japanese market as a ’75 Jazz Bass reissue, this bass is unusual for having an alder body, rosewood fretboard and matching headstock Candy Apple Red Finish. It is likely this bass was made by Tokai Gakki given the serial number and stamping on the parts.

The vintage spec 7.25-inch radius maple neck is topped by a beautifully figured chocolate colored rosewood fretboard with masterfully applied creme binding and while pearloid block inlays. A 3-bolt neck joint with micro-tilt mechanism, head-side bullet type truss rod nut, and large trapezoidal tuning peg plates round out the period appropriate appointments.

The beautifully crafted maple neck is a svelte, easy playing C-profile with 0.80” depth at the 1st fret, 0.92” depth at the 12th fret, 1.5” nut width and 2.22” 12th fret width. The gloss finish on the neck is smooth and flawless. The fretwork is outstanding and lower action is possible if that is your preference.

The tone from the JB75/MH is outstanding, with plenty of low-end punch and midrange focus and growl. There is warmth without lacking upper midrange and treble clarity and definition. The US-made Jazz Bass single coil Jazz single-coil pickups are the same as those used for the American Standard Jazz, offering excellent focus, growl, and clarity from the bridge pickup, and round low end depth and thump from the neck pickup. Controls are traditional neck volume, bridge volume, and master tone.
