Why we like it

Distilled essence of old school 70s P-Bass vibe in an exceptional new school made in Japan alder bodied build. We love these made in Japan Traditional series instruments as they are great instruments in the style of classic Fender instruments, not just “good for the price”.

Condition

This bass is in Excellent condition. There are minor fine scratches scattered over the body and fine pick marks on the pickguard. There is a very small ding on the front of the lower bout. There is a chip next to the rear strap button. The gloss finish on the neck is in perfect condition. The truss rod is in good working order with adjustability in both directions. The neck is straight with no signs of warping or waviness. The electronics are in perfect working order.

This bass weighs in at 8.7 pounds and feels well balanced in use. A thumb rest has been installed over the pickguard. This bass will include Fender FB620 gig bag with ample 20mm cushion in place of the flimsy factory bag. A hard case can be supplied upon request, message us for details. The original warranty card, hang tags, and tool are also included. It has been professionally set up with Ernie Ball Slinky 45-100 strings with dialed-in intonation, optimal relief, medium action, and pickup height set.

Overview

Looking sharp in its two-tone color scheme, this fantastic Precision Bass series was exclusive to the Japanese market and more closely adheres to traditional 70s specs than the current Traditional II series iteration. True to vintage spec, this bass features an alder body, 7.25-inch fretboard radius, Olympic White finish and black 3-ply pickguard. The alder body contributes to a well-balanced tone with pleasantly thick midrange. It sits well in any ensemble with plenty of cut and punch depending on playing style.  It is equipped with a natural gloss urethane finish maple neck with classically beautiful slab rosewood fingerboard. While unmistakable as a P-Bass neck, it feels slightly slimmer in hand than the Traditional 60s model, with a 1.578-inch (40mm) nut width. The streamlined U profile neck has 2.24-inch width at the 12th fret, 0.81-inch depth at the 1st fret, and 0.94-inch depth at the 12th fret, adding up to a comfortable but quick P-bass neck that you’ll be happy to gig all night. High quality Gotoh clover tuners and 4-Saddle Vintage-Style steel barrel bridge round out the hardware complement.

Electronics and Tone

The original Vintage-Style Split Single-Coil Precision Bass pickup has a wide tonal range and is compatible with a wide range of genres. It is round and punchy without being muddy and warm while still providing midrange zing with roundwounds. It’s very capable of reproducing the charm of the classic Precision Bass, especially in concert with the alder body. The tone is thick, sweet, and punchy. Controls are traditional master volume and tone.
