Providence SLD-1F Silky Drive Overdrive Pedal

Why we love it

Premier Guitar describes Silky Drive’s design as “ideal for guitarists who would rather play than twiddle knobs” and we wholeheartedly agree. Familiar controls and super easy to dial in great overdrive tones. Use it push those tubes as a characterful boost, or heck out the Gain Boost button for lots of dirt without big volume swings. Great for bringing some brighter tones to guitars equipped with darker sounding pickups, but the tone knob really has an expansive and usable sweep from deeper, rounder tones to very bright. Lovely, fluid leads available here.

Condition

This effects pedal is in Excellent condition. There are minor scuffs and cloudiness on the exterior of the case. This unit has been tested and all functions are operational. The original packaging and instructions are included.

Description

The SLD-1F Silky Drive overdrive pedal delivers a classic sound that is reminiscent of the smooth, silky overdrive tones produced by vintage tube amplifiers. The tone control circuitry is all passive, for natural tonal variation that is similar to the effect of the guitar’s tone controls.

V.N.S. Circuit

The SLD-1F Silky Drive features a Vitalized Noiseless Switching Circuit (V.N.S. Circuit) that effectively minimizes switching noise that can occur when the effect is switched on or off while maintaining optimum sound quality.

D.C.G. Circuit

Due to the adoption of the new double-contact grounding circuit (D.C.G. Circuit), by inserting a monaural plug into the output jack, the shield (sleeve) of the plug provides two points of contact to the pedal’s ground circuit. By increasing the area of the point of contact, it becomes more difficult for a loose connection to occur, and provides the additional advantage of improved sound quality.

GAIN BOOST

Boosts the gain. Press the switch in to engage the GAIN BOOST function.

Multi-function LED

In addition to indicating the pedal’s on/off status, the SLD-1F LED provides effective visual battery power monitoring. When the battery voltage drops below 7 volts the LED will become dimmer and begin to go out. The effect will still operate at this voltage, but to ensure optimum performance the battery should be replaced as soon as possible.

VITALIZER® Circuit

The innovative VITALIZER® circuit is included to prevent signal degradation. The VITALIZER® circuit is active even when the effect is off, ensuring that a degradation-resistant signal is being output at all times.

Credit to vintageguitar.com for the following description. Also check out the Premier Guitar Review that has lots of great info. – “At first blush, the Silky Drive is reminiscent of the classic Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9, with three potentiometers (Level, Tone, and Drive) laid out in a similar pattern. The first key difference that becomes apparent, however, is a Gain Boost button that pushes the Silky Drive from a medium overdrive sound to chunky distortion. In addition, the Silky Drive offers something called “Vitalizer,” a noiseless switching circuit that adapts to the instrument’s output, ensuring that the original signal is uncompromised. Gain Boost and Vitalizer result in a stompbox with higher fidelity and more transparent sound than a TS9, ideal for pushing the front end of a vintage amp into smooth, natural distortion. Features a double-contact grounding circuit that provides two points of contact to the pedal’s ground circuit for 1/4″ jacks and is encased in heavy-duty MXR-sized box.”
