Overview
RYOGA models made in Japan are hidden gems of premium craftsmanship. Crafted by Fujigen as a private label for a respected Japanese retailer, these limited-run guitars boast exceptional quality and attention to detail. The Hornet, a cornerstone of the RYOGA brand, features a lightweight design ideal for long performances without sacrificing tone. Despite its understated look, this guitar is loaded with high-end features.
The mahogany body delivers a warm, robust tone, while the 3-piece neck—constructed from hard maple layered between mahogany—ensures strength and rich tonal response. Deep-set around the 15th fret for enhanced sustain and featuring a cutout on the first-string side for improved playability, the neck strikes a balance between modern C and D profiles with a comfortable 1.69-inch nut width and a 12-inch fingerboard radius. A thick rosewood fingerboard with stylish offset fret markers and refined fretwork offers both visual appeal and a slick, responsive feel for fast runs. The sublime transparent pearl white finish subtly shifts with the light, showcasing the natural grain of the tonewoods, while an eye-catching abalone RYOGA Hornet logo inlay graces the headstock. Additional premium details include Gotoh locking tuners, a tremolo bridge, a thick tortoiseshell pickguard, matching tortoiseshell-capped knobs, and a rosewood truss rod cover.

Electronics and Tone
Fantastic VanZandt single coil and humbucker pickups were chosen for this early model Hornet. The single coil VanZandt ROCK neck pickup provides a full bodied yet tight sound with fast attack, leaning toward Telecaster territory. The bridge pickup is a VanZandt TRUEBACKER-HOT 4C providing plenty of detailed, dynamic, and tonally complex output for overdriven sounds. These pickups sound great individually or used together. Orange Drop capacitors, cloth wire, and Switchcraft jack are used to complete the electronics package.
