Description
Weed Sweet Drive – White
Professor’s Notes
Sweet Drive is a high-end TS-style overdrive pedal made by Harry’s Engineering in Japan. Aptly named and tough to set a knob wrong on this pedal, use mild settings to bring out some additional nuance and color, or push your tone into sweet, creamy overdrive.
Condition
This effects pedal is in Excellent condition, with few signs of prior use that do not impact sound or functionality. There are a few scattered scuffs on the exterior. There is Velcro on the back from prior use on a pedalboard. The original packaging and instructions are included.
Description
Harry’s Engineering is a relatively small company that specializes in producing high-quality guitar pedals by hand, using carefully selected components and attention to detail in the design and construction process. The Weed Sweet Drive is one of their most popular pedals and is highly regarded for its tone and build quality. In addition to Weed effects, Harry’s is a well-known boutique builder of the amazing Dragonfly guitars and basses, StonerFX pedals, and modifications for pedals from other manufacturers. This great sounding pedal is rare to find outside of Japan.
Sweet Drive was created based on Harry’s Engineering experience in researching and modifying famous compact effectors from around the world. Taking advantage of their experience in modification, audio-grade, high-spec parts are used abundantly for the internal components and wiring materials. Even when gain is set high, it has little self-noise, so it can also be used as a clean booster with low gain and high volume.
The controls are LEVEL, TONE, and DRIVE from the left.
The mini switch under LEVEL is the Damping switch, which is the biggest feature of this overdrive. This is a mechanism that cuts the low frequencies of distortion with UP and boosts the low frequencies with DOWN. When incorporated into a rack system or playing with a small-diameter speaker, you can use DOWN to suppress the boomy low frequencies when playing with a large-diameter speaker. It is powered by a 9V battery or AC adapter (9V/DC-2.1mm/center negative).
Whether it’s a single coil or a humbucker, this pedal is great because it can create a so-called “sweet spot” regardless of the characteristics of your guitar.
