1999 Bacchus BST-64V Vintage Series – Burgundy Mist with Matching Headstock

Condition

This guitar is in Excellent condition with normal signs of use for a 26 year old instrument. There are a few fine scratches and shallow bumps around the perimeter of the body, along with one shallow ding measuring approximately 2mm on the top of the headstock. There are some minor pick scratches on the pickguard and neck pickup cover. We completed a minor fret level (minimal material removed) and polish. Frets are in great condition with the majority of their usable life remaining, conservatively estimated at 70% or better. The truss rod functions normally with room in both directions, and the neck shows no signs of warping or waviness.  The electronics function as intended without issue. There are no stains or burns in the lacquer finish.

Includes a Fender FE610 padded gig bag and tremolo arm.

A thorough inspection and professional setup have been completed to ensure full functionality and playability upon arrival. It has been set up with fresh D’Addario EXL110 .010–.046 strings, medium-low action with optimally adjusted relief, intonation dialed in up and down the neck, and pickup height set.

This is the kind of Strat that makes early Japanese Bacchus guitars worth seeking out. A substantial but beautifully shaped vintage neck, a wonderfully full and expressive single-coil voice, and the responsiveness that makes a great Strat so rewarding to play. Finished in gorgeous Burgundy Mist Metallic with a matching headstock, this is a particularly compelling alternative for someone considering a vintage Fender or a considerably more expensive boutique interpretation.

Description

The BST-64V comes from the original Bacchus Vintage Series, produced in Japan during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Drawing inspiration from Fender's mid-1960s designs, these instruments combine traditional construction and specifications with the careful woodworking and attention to detail that helped establish Bacchus as one of Japan's notable guitar builders.

These early Vintage Series instruments deserve to be considered alongside Deviser's later Bacchus Handmade and Momose guitars. In our experience, their woodworking, neck shaping, fit and finish exhibit a comparable level of refinement. This BST-64V is a particularly fine example, delivering that standard of workmanship in an authentically vintage-inspired instrument.

Finished in beautiful Burgundy Mist with a matching headstock, this example has an understated but distinctive appearance. The metallic finish shifts subtly with the light, ranging from a muted, almost silvery rose to a richer burgundy. It's an especially attractive combination with the dark rosewood fingerboard and vintage-style appointments.

The two-piece alder body is paired with a maple neck and slab rosewood fingerboard with a measured 7.25-inch radius. The substantial Vintage C neck measures 0.84 inches deep at the first fret and 0.95 inches at the twelfth, offering much of the depth of a vintage U profile but with more relaxed shoulders.

The nitrocellulose lacquer topcoat contributes to the guitar's traditional appearance and feel, while the vintage-inspired body contours preserve the familiar ergonomics of a great early-1960s S-style guitar.

Rather than offering a modern reinterpretation, the BST-64V is an exercise in faithfully executing a familiar design. Its appeal lies in the materials, construction and small details that become increasingly apparent with closer inspection, and especially when you pick it up and play.

Electronics and Tone

This BST-64V is equipped with the original, fantastic single-coil Bacchus Alnico Special pickups manufactured by Keiyo. Their flat pole pieces and fiber-covered leads are consistent with early Vintage Series examples, while the green vintage-style capacitor is another period-appropriate detail.

Tonally, this guitar has a particularly full and expressive voice, with more midrange presence than some traditional vintage-style Strat configurations. The neck pickup is rounded and articulate, with substantial body and a smooth, vocal quality. The bridge delivers focused bite and definition, while the intermediate positions retain the characteristic openness, chime and harmonic complexity that make this pickup arrangement so versatile.

There's plenty of traditional single-coil clarity here, but with enough body and midrange authority to sound equally convincing clean, at the edge of breakup or with more assertive overdrive.
