Like a slightly more modern incarnation of the earlier MIJ JB62-US, the first-generation Hybrid series jazz basses dish out quintessential jazz bass tone and feel with US-made Pure Vintage pickups and CTS pots, select alder body, satin finish maple neck and outstanding build quality.

Condition

This bass is in Very Good condition. There is a shallow dent near the rear of the 1st string side of the bridge (pictured). There are very shallow marks on the end of the headstock (pictured). There are shallow surface dents and scratches around the edge of the lower bout (pictured). We have enhanced the photos to make sure they are clearly visible. In normal lighting they are not as noticeable. Some additional photos are available upon request. There is a light patina on the metal parts. The truss rod is in good working order with adjustability in both directions and the neck is straight with no signs of warping or waviness. The frets show limited signs of wear with plenty of life remaining. All electronics are in perfect working order.

This bass has received a thorough multi-point inspection and was professionally set up with 45-105 D’Addario EXL170 roundwound strings, medium action, optimally adjusted relief, accurate intonation up and down the neck and pickup height set. Overview

Somewhere between the earlier JB62 and current Hybrid II jazz basses lives the Hybrid 60s Jazz Bass. Produced exclusively for the Japanese market, the Hybrid 60s JB is an unusual find which doesn’t often become available secondhand. Similar to the first generation Hybrid Strats, Teles and Jazzmasters, this Jazz Bass offers an interesting blend of vintage and modern specifications that lean a bit more toward vintage than the current Hybrid II series instruments.

With beautifully applied 3-tone sunburst finish over gorgeously figured alder body, this stunner is ready to dish out deep grooves and turn heads. The superbly shaped 34-inch scale maple neck features an easy playing U-profile with silky smooth urethane finish. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has stunning figuring with colors ranging from dark chocolate to lighter cinnamon shades, vintage spec 7.25-inch radius maple neck, 20 medium frets, and white dot inlays.

Electronics and Tone

Whether plucked, slapped, or picked, the tone from the Hybrid 60s JB is excellent, with plenty of low-end punch, midrange complexity and treble sparkle. The US-spec Pure Vintage Jazz Bass single coil pickups offer a decidedly more upscale tone than lower tier pickups with excellent focus, growl, and clarity from the bridge pickup, and round low-end depth and thump from the neck pickup. Controls are traditional neck volume, bridge volume, and master tone. US-made CTS 250k pots reside in the control cavity, providing transparent and reliable operation.
