Professor’s Notes
An incredible J-style bass akin to Fender’s MIJ Hybrid series, taking many beloved classic Jazz Bass attributes and marrying them with modern, boutique style enhancements. The made in Japan WL-JB4’s outstanding feel, tone and craftsmanship surpass its original value-based position in the Bacchus lineup. Long out of production, these are becoming harder to find in good condition, especially in such a desirable color. Highly recommended.

Condition
This bass is in Excellent condition with minimal signs of use that don’t affect playability. There are shallow dents and scratches primarily near the back and perimeter of the lower bout (pictured).  There is a shallow ding along the perimeter near the control cavity (pictured). Minor patina is visible on the metal parts such as bridge and tuning keys. The electronics remain original with no issues. The neck binding, block inlays, frets, and nut are all in excellent shape, with the binding secure and frets showing only slight wear. The neck is straight, and the truss rod adjusts smoothly in both directions. We replaced the crumbling original pickup foam to ensure proper pickup height and adjustability.

A thorough inspection has been performed verify condition and ensure full functionality. The WL-JB4 has been professionally setup with new DR Sunbeam 45-105 strings, optimal relief, action set to medium, accurate intonation, and dialed in pickup height to ensure optimal playability upon arrival to you. Overview

Inspired by the Fender Jazz Bass design and featuring a classic tonewood combo, the WL-JB4’s slightly smaller, contoured body is crafted from select alder and finished in a beautiful emerald toned Transparent Green rare to find for this model. The masterfully applied finish highlights the striking grain of the alder body, while elegant pearloid neck binding and block inlays add refined detail and upscale presence. The masterfully crafted C-profile neck (specs above) features a real bone nut, superb fretwork and a beautifully figured rosewood fretboard adding to the boutique appeal of this instrument. High-quality Gotoh tuners and a heavy duty vintage-style bridge ensure excellent tuning stability, tone, and sustain.

Electronics and Tone
The WL-JB4/R is equipped with outstanding JB-ALV Alnico 5 jazz pickups with cloth wiring used across high end J-bass models for Bacchus and Momose. While this is a purely passive configuration, the tone has a decidedly upscale sound, delivering focused, punchy bass with excellent fundamental note definition, detailed and complex midrange and treble  with excellent bite to cut through a mix. The neck pickup is round and warm while still retaining plenty of focus and girth, and the bridge pickup provides excellent growl and detail without having excessive honk or strident treble. Controls consist of neck and bridge pickup volume and master tone. The tone knob doubles as a series/parallel switch for “Turbo mode”, running the two single coils like a humbucker.
