Professor’s Notes
A classic reborn, the Bad Stone is an all-analog, 6-stage phaser that delivers vintage swirl and stands as a value-oriented alternative to vintage vintage analog phasers such as the Boss MIJ Black Labels.
Description
The Electro-Harmonix Bad Stone is a faithful reissue of a 1970s classic, updated with modern reliability in a compact, rugged enclosure. Its 6-stage analog circuit produces rich, liquid phasing that ranges from smooth movement to dramatic, spacey textures.
The simple control set — Rate, Feedback, and Manual Shift — makes it quick to dial in inspiring tones. The Manual Shift knob unlocks a unique feature: freezing the sweep for static, vocal-like filter effects that go beyond the range of traditional phasers.
Where Boss MIJ phasers like the PH-1 and PH-1r excel at smooth subtlety, the Bad Stone adds extra versatility and personality, with deeper modulation and more expressive control. As a reissue, it offers the authentic vintage character of the original at a fraction of the price of collectible units, making it a smart choice for players chasing analog phasing without vintage hassles.
