Condition

This effects pedal is in Very Good condition. There are scattered marks, scuffs and chips on the exterior. The serial number dates to January 1989. This unit has been thoroughly cleaned and tested with 9v battery and compatible power supply. All functions are operational. The original packaging and instructions are not included. 

Professor’s Notes

The original MIJ DS-2 is the real Turbo Distortion: raw, urgent, and weirdly mix-ready when you set it like a grown-up. Mode I gives you a classic, grindy drive that stays articulate; Mode II is the reason the pedal exists—more output, more bite, more forward mids for leads that don’t get swallowed. It’s not polite, and that’s the point.

Professor’s Tips

• Treat it like an amp channel, not a fuzz box. Most great DS-2 sounds live with Distortion below noon and the Level up. Let the amp do the “size.”
• Mode I = rhythm discipline. Start here for tight, percussive alt/rock drive. If it feels fizzy, back the Tone down first before touching the gain.
• Mode II = “step forward” lead voice. Use it when you need the guitar to move to the front without adding pedals—more push and cut, especially into a slightly breaking-up amp.
• Use the remote jack like a channel switch. A simple external footswitch turns the DS-2 into a two-voice distortion rig (Rhythm/Lead) without tap dancing.
• Stacking trick (PN’s-approved): put a low-gain drive/boost before it (ODR-style, Klon-ish set clean) to tighten the low end and smooth the top.
• If you’re chasing “that” aggressive 90s thing: Mode II, Tone ~10:00–11:00, Distortion ~1:00, Level to taste—then adjust Tone last, in tiny moves.
