Professor’s Notes

The black label OC-2 is the octave pedal that doesn’t just “add an octave” — it gives your signal a second shadow that moves like an instrument. It’s warm, slightly unstable in the best way, and instantly musical: single notes turn into synth-bass lines, and simple riffs become hooks. If you’ve ever wanted your rig to feel bigger without getting louder, this is one of the all-time great answers.

Professor’s Tips

  • Start monophonic on purpose. The OC-2 tracks best with single notes and clean-ish technique. Think bass player mindset: one note at a time, confident attack, clean muting.
  • Classic “synth bass” recipe:
    • OCT-1: ~1:00–2:00
    • OCT-2: ~9:00–11:00
    • DIRECT: ~10:00–12:00
This gives you weight + a hint of sub without turning into a foghorn.
  • Guitar vs bass balance:
    • On guitar, keep DIRECT a bit higher so it stays articulate.
    • On bass, you can lean harder on OCT-1 for that famous OC-2 thump.
  • Placement is everything:
    • Early in chain (before drive/mod/delay) for the best tracking and most “synthy” response.
    • If you want a gnarlier, glitchier character, put a mild drive after it.
    • If it gets warbly, simplify. Roll back tone, play higher up the neck, and reduce chord content. The OC-2 rewards restraint.
    • Use OCT-2 as spice, not the meal. A little sub makes everything feel expensive; too much can swallow your low mids fast.
