Condition

This bass is in Excellent condition with a few disclosed cosmetic issues.

The protective plastic is still on the pickguard. There are minor fine scratches and light surface scuffs across the body from normal handling. There is a tiny chip on the edge of the lower side of the neck pocket and two tiny dings near the neck plate, both pictured. There are a few shallow dents on the perimeter of the lower bout near the control cavity, also pictured. These marks are localized and do not affect playability, structure, or performance.

The frets show very little wear and have plenty of life remaining, with no buzzing or dead frets. The truss rod is in good working order with plenty of adjustability in both directions. The neck is straight with no signs of warping or waviness. The tuners and bridge show light patina.

Alpha 250k pots were installed by a prior owner, and the electronics are clean and fully functional. We replaced the original crumbling pickup foam to ensure proper pickup height and stability.

This bass has been professionally set up with DR Strings Pure Blues 45-100 roundwound strings, medium action, adjusted relief, intonation dialed in up and down the neck, and pickup height set.

A brand new Fender FB620 bass gig bag is included. Hard case available upon request for an additional fee.

Professor’s Notes

A standout Crafted in Japan JB62-US with an aged Sonic Blue finish, US-made Jazz Bass pickups, alder body, rosewood fingerboard, and a gorgeous flame maple neck. This is a sweet-playing, lively, and unusually compelling Fender Japan bass with classic 60s Jazz Bass feel and a little extra visual magic.

Description

The JB62-US was Fender Japan’s ’62 Jazz Bass reissue specification with upgraded US-made pickups. This example is especially compelling thanks to its aged Sonic Blue finish, alder body, rosewood fingerboard, and unusually figured flame maple neck.

Given the serial number and parts markings, this bass was likely produced by Tokai Gakki for Fender Japan. It has the feel and detail work that make the better Crafted in Japan Fender instruments so appealing: clean neck work, stable setup, strong acoustic response, and a familiar vintage-style playing feel.

The neck has a classic Jazz Bass profile with a 7.25-inch radius, vintage-size frets, gloss finish, and comfortable taper. The flame figuring throughout the maple gives this bass a more boutique feel without taking it away from the traditional ’62 Jazz Bass formula.

The US-made Jazz Bass single coil pickups deliver the sound you want from a great passive Jazz Bass: clear bridge pickup growl, round neck pickup depth, and a balanced, articulate blended tone. The alder body keeps the low end controlled while giving the bass a focused midrange and rounded top end.

The original pots were replaced by a prior owner with quality Alpha 250k units and a 0.047Β΅F polyester film green drop capacitor. Controls remain traditional neck volume, bridge volume, and master tone, with no modifications to the circuit function.

Color note: This finish presents with a mint / turquoise hue in person and in photos. It is listed as Sonic Blue based on best visual match and Fender Japan naming conventions, and reads lighter and greener than Daphne Blue but less green than Surf Green.
