Condition

This effect pedal is in Excellent condition, with only minor signs of careful use and handling. The exterior is very clean overall with few scratches or blemishes. All controls, switches, inputs and outputs are fully operational. The unit has been thoroughly cleaned and tested with a compatible 9V power supply.

The FF-1Y requires a regulated 9V DC, center-negative power supply capable of approximately 350mA. Free The Tone recommends using an isolated power output rather than daisy chaining this pedal.

Professor’s Notes

The Future Factory is for the player who wants one delay to do a lot of serious work without ever sounding generic. It can give you pristine, beautifully placed repeats, but the real reason to buy it is the way it creates space—especially in stereo, where the modulation and dual-delay architecture can make the entire rig feel wider, deeper and more alive. It also works great in mono, where the two delay engines can be run in series for layered, more complex textures. It’s powerful enough for a complex MIDI rig, but good enough at the basics that you’ll use it even when you don’t need the clever stuff.

Professor’s Tips

• Start simpler than the panel suggests: build a good conventional delay sound first, then introduce modulation and the second delay engine. The FF-1Y gets much easier to understand once you hear what each layer is contributing.

• Stereo is where it really opens up: the dual-delay architecture and RF Phase modulation can create a wide, almost three-dimensional field without needing exaggerated modulation depth.

• Don’t write it off for a mono rig: the FF-1Y also works great in mono, and running the two delay engines in series opens up layered rhythmic delays, stacked ambience and more complex repeat structures without requiring a stereo setup.

• For subtle movement: keep modulation restrained and let the random phase behavior do the work. It tends to sound more organic than a pronounced conventional chorus-style cycle.

• Use the EQ: the dedicated 3-band EQ lets you place the repeats behind the dry signal instead of simply turning the delay level down. Rolling off some high end is especially useful for creating deeper, less intrusive ambience.

• Don’t overlook the conventional sounds: despite the feature set, the FF-1Y is excellent as a straightforward polished digital delay. You don’t need to exploit every routing option to justify having it on a board.

• For larger rigs: the 128 presets, MIDI support and instrument/line-level compatibility make this especially useful in stereo, switching-system or MIDI-controlled setups.
