History x Kaminari KH-Cygnet Fire Red — Made in Japan by Fujigen

Japanese-made offset electric guitar created through the collaboration of History and Kaminari Guitars, with DiMarzio mini humbuckers, custom Gotoh hardware and distinctive compact-body design.

Condition

This guitar is in Excellent condition with light signs of use. The body shows minor surface wear, fine pick scratches and minor buckle rash consistent with normal play. The frets are in excellent shape with no significant wear. Hardware is clean and fully functional. Electronics are original and operate flawlessly.

Includes the original, very high-quality Kaminari padded gig bag.

A thorough inspection and professional setup have been completed to ensure full functionality and playability upon arrival. It has been set up with fresh D’Addario EXL110 .010–.046 strings, medium-low action with optimally adjusted relief, intonation dialed in up and down the neck, and pickup height set.

Professor’s Notes

The KH-Cygnet is one of those rare guitars where nearly every unusual decision makes sense the moment you pick it up. Light, balanced and immediately responsive, with mini-humbucker clarity and enough authority to feel substantial, it’s a genuinely distinctive Japanese instrument rather than another variation on a familiar formula.

Description

The result of a collaboration between Kaminari Guitars and Shimamura Musical Instruments’ History brand, the KH-Cygnet blends familiar vintage ideas with unusually thoughtful Japanese design. Made in Japan at Fujigen and finished here in striking Fire Red, it combines a compact 2-piece alder body, short 24.75-inch scale, Gotoh hardware, contoured heel and Fujigen’s proprietary Circle Fretting System into an instrument that feels purposeful rather than simply unconventional.

The non-reverse Firebird-inspired body is notably compact and thin, helping keep the guitar light and exceptionally well balanced whether seated or standing. A very thin polyurethane finish allows the character of the alder body to come through without the heavy, glassy feel common to thicker poly finishes.

The bolt-on one-piece maple neck uses a 24.75-inch scale and a measured 10-inch rosewood fingerboard radius, with 22 medium-jumbo frets. Cream binding and offset pearloid sword-tip markers give the neck an appropriately distinctive look, while the sculpted heel provides excellent upper-fret access.

The matching Fire Red headstock uses Gotoh SD91 tuners and one of the KH-Cygnet’s cleverest details: its stepped shape creates a natural mounting point for a clip-on tuner while helping protect the tuner buttons from accidental impact.

At the other end, a Gotoh Tune-O-Matic feeds a bespoke solid-aluminum tailpiece recessed directly into the body. It is a genuinely unusual piece of hardware that provides a firm mechanical connection between the strings and body while contributing to the Cygnet’s immediate, lively response.

Artful, ergonomic and built for serious playing, the KH-Cygnet is a particularly good example of what happens when Japanese design is allowed to reinterpret vintage ideas rather than simply reproduce them.

Electronics and Tone

A matched pair of DiMarzio Vintage Minibuckers gives the KH-Cygnet a voice that sits naturally between traditional humbucker fullness and single-coil definition.

The neck pickup is full and smooth without becoming woolly, with enough high-end definition to keep chords articulate. The bridge has focused attack and bite but avoids becoming thin or abrasive. The middle position is especially useful, combining the two into a clear, harmonically complex sound that works equally well clean or driven.

There’s a consistent theme across all three positions: body without mud, clarity without harshness. The alder/maple/rosewood construction keeps the attack lively, while the mini humbuckers provide enough midrange density to keep the guitar authoritative rather than delicate.

CTS 500k pots, an Orange Drop 0.022μF capacitor, vintage-style cloth wiring and a Switchcraft output jack complete a simple, high-quality electronics package.
