The Laney Black Country Customs Secret Path is a studio-inspired digital reverb designed to create space without sacrificing clarity. Instead of overwhelming the dry signal, it preserves articulation and pick attack while layering in depth that feels integrated with the amp and guitar.

Three carefully voiced reverb modes cover the most useful territory for modern rigs:

  • SPRING – classic guitar reverb character with brightness and bounce
  • PLATE – smooth, studio-style depth that adds polish without clutter
  • SECRET PATH – Laney’s signature ambient mode with modulation and extended decay for atmospheric textures

The pedal also includes a dedicated SHIMMER control that introduces octave-up harmonic content into the reverb tail. Used subtly it adds lift and air; pushed further it creates expansive ambient soundscapes ideal for modern atmospheric playing.

Unlike many ambient reverbs that blur the guitar’s identity, Secret Path keeps the dry signal present and musical, making it equally comfortable as a subtle always-on space enhancer or as a dramatic ambient effect.

Professor’s Tips

  • “Finished Spring” (classic, not messy): SPR mode, Volume low-to-mid, Pre-Delay short, Tone to taste.
  • Plate that sits in a mix: PLT mode, Pre-Delay slightly up (lets the dry note speak first), Size moderate, Tone slightly darker if you want it to tuck in.
  • The dark hallway: TSP mode, Size up, Pre-Delay up, Tone darker, then hold the footswitch to enter E Mode and dial in shimmer with Edit (subtle first—this is where it stays classy).
  • Expression = “hands-free space”: In standard mode, expression controls wet/dry mix; in E Mode it shifts toward modulation/shimmer blend.
