Professor’s Notes
The right chorus doesn’t cover the note — it moves around it. Spiral Array gives you the chew of analog chorus, the width of Dimension space, and the swirl of Tri-Stereo movement, all without losing the guitar at the center.
Description
The Laney Black Country Customs Spiral Array is a chorus pedal with a difference: it’s three distinctly different chorus engines in one box, each inspired by a defining era of chorus sounds. The Spiral Array houses 3 classic chorus sounds, painstakingly recreated from the classic era of Chorus the mid 70’s to the mid 80’s. An analog chorus based on a thick lush 1976 Boss CE1, a spatial digital chorus based off the 1979 Roland Dimension D and the renowned uber rich sounding 1985 Dytronics Tri Stereo Chorus, All in one box.
Choose between:
- AN (Analog) mode – thick, lush chorus inspired by the mid-’70s classic analog sound (think CE-1-style feel)
- DIM mode – a spatial, wide digital chorus inspired by late ’70s/early ’80s “Dimension” style imaging
- TSC mode – a Tri-Stereo chorus approach for a bigger, more three-dimensional spread inspired by iconic mid-’80s studio chorus tones
It’s built for real pedalboards: transparent fully buffered operation at all times, silent switching, stereo outputs for wide rigs, and an expression input that lets you control the Mix in real time.
Professor’s Tips
- “Set-and-forget, always-on wideness”: Start in DIM mode, keep Depth moderate and Mix low-to-mid. You’ll get width without sounding “chorusy.”
- Chewy, musical movement: AN mode, set Rate slow, bring Depth up until it starts to sway, then use Tone to keep it sweet (not brittle).
- Big stereo cinema: TSC mode into a stereo rig, Mix mid, Rate slow-to-mid. This is the “it sounds expensive” setting.
- Expression move (underrated): Set your max Mix where you like it, then use an expression pedal to sweep Mix from dry → your chosen blend for choruses that arrive only when needed.
