The right compressor doesn’t change your bass — it changes how the line sits in the music. The Custard Factory evens out the notes, keeps the low end strong, and lets the groove carry forward with quiet authority. It’s the kind of control you notice more in the band than on the pedal.

Description

The Laney Black Country Customs Custard Factory is a studio-quality, triple-mode bass compressor designed to be transparent, easy to dial, and consistently musical. The idea is simple: give you the control that actually matters on a pedalboard, without flattening your tone or turning your dynamics into a constant squeeze.

The control set is purpose-built for bass:

• COMP sets how much compression you’re applying
• WET-MIX-DRY blends your compressed signal with your dry signal (fully dry ↔ fully wet, with 50/50 at center)
• PRESENCE adds treble in the compressed signal so you can keep articulation without harshness
• VOLUME sets your output level

A 3-position MODE switch changes the attack speed of the compression:

• Fast for quick runs and tighter control
• Medium as the all-around “set and forget” lane
• Slow for longer sustained notes and a more relaxed feel

Like other BCC bass pedals, it’s built as a real working tool: transparent fully buffered operation, silent switching, and ultra-low noise circuitry.

Professor’s Tips

• Always-on leveling (most players’ default): MODE Medium, COMP low-to-mid, WET-MIX-DRY around noon. Set PRESENCE just high enough that the bass stays readable when the band gets loud.
• Tight modern control / fast playing: MODE Fast, COMP mid, then use WET-MIX-DRY to keep the attack alive (don’t over-wet it).
• Big sustained notes without “squish”: MODE Slow, COMP mid, WET-MIX-DRY slightly toward dry, then raise VOLUME to unity.
• Parallel compression shortcut: If you’re not sure where to start, set WET-MIX-DRY at 12 o’clock and adjust COMP until the bass line feels even without feeling pinned.
