Description

The Laney Digbeth DB-PRE is a full-featured bass preamp pedal designed to function as a complete portable tone hub or as the front end of an existing rig. Laney built it around both FET and Tube signal paths, giving you access to cleaner, faster response on one side and more driven, harmonically rich texture on the other.

This is not a stripped-down “DI with EQ” box. The DB-PRE includes substantial tone control, with Bass, Low Mid, High Mid, and Treble EQ, a 3-way low-mid frequency selector, and Laney’s Tilt EQ for quick overall rebalancing toward darker or brighter voicings. That makes it useful for solving real bass problems fast: dead backline, boomy rooms, overly polite direct tones, or the need to move between modern clean and warmer pushed sounds without rebuilding your entire setup.

Laney also loaded the DB-PRE with the kind of connectivity that makes it genuinely pedalboard-worthy: balanced XLR DI out, ground lift, pre/post source selection, FX loop, aux in, headphone out, link out, and separate inputs for active and passive basses. It can be the centerpiece of a compact direct rig, a recording front end, a silent practice tool, or just the thing that makes an unfamiliar amp feel usable.

Professor’s Tips

• Clean modern foundation: Start on the FET side, keep EQ mostly flat, then use Tilt for quick room correction before making deeper EQ moves.
• More character, still controlled: Blend in the Tube path for added texture and harmonic push without losing the core note.
• Direct rig shortcut: Use the XLR DI out with pre/post set for the workflow you want, and keep the pedal as your consistent “home base” tone regardless of venue or backline.
• Pedalboard reality: If the amp isn’t working for you, shape the sound here first. That’s the point of a preamp this complete.
