Professor’s Notes
Lionheart LTQ is the elegant answer to a familiar problem: you want real amp feel, real channel switching, and real authority — but not another heavy box to move around. It puts the Lionheart voice under your feet, with immediate knob-per-function control instead of menu diving for tone, from rich clean and edge-of-breakup sounds to articulate lead tones in a format that makes a serious pedalboard feel complete.
Description
The Laney Black Country Customs Loudpedal Lionheart LTQ is a 60-watt, two-channel pedalboard amplifier developed with Tom Quayle and built in the UK in Laney’s Black Country Customs workshop. It’s designed to capture the tone and feel of the Lionheart tube amp series in a compact floor unit that can serve as the heart of a modern rig.
Each channel has its own Gain and Volume controls, with switchable Bright / Natural / Dark voicings so you can move from clear, open clean tones to thicker driven sounds without rebuilding the whole rig. Laney also added something not normally found on a Lionheart: a footswitchable Boost with level control, plus onboard Secret Path digital reverb for space and dimension.
This is more than a pedal-sized preamp. The LTQ includes a real 60W RMS power amp for driving a passive cab, along with Laney’s LA·IR balanced XLR output with selectable FRFR, Cab A, or Cab B voicings and a ground lift switch. That makes it equally useful as a compact live amp, a direct-to-FOH solution, or the center of a pedalboard-based recording and practice setup. It also supports MIDI, giving you footswitchable control beyond the onboard switches if you want to build a more advanced rig around it.
Professor’s Tips
- Start simple: Set Channel 1 as your cleaner or edge-of-breakup base sound, then use Channel 2 for your more saturated voice. Think “two solved gain stages,” not endless tweaking.
- Use Boost musically: On Channel 1, the Boost is a great way to move from clean into edge-of-breakup or crunch. On Channel 2, use it to bring a lead part forward without rebuilding the whole sound.
- Direct rig shortcut: Use the XLR LA·IR out when you want a compact, consistent stage or recording setup without depending entirely on the venue amp situation.
-
Pedalboard logic: This works best as the tone engine of a resolved board — drives, delay, modulation, and reverb all feeding something that actually feels like an amp.
