Professor’s Notes
The sweet, session-player approved ODR voice you know, but clearer, richer, and more dynamic. The ODR-1X gives you the heart of the original with a more modern swagger—tighter lows, clearer highs, and a drive curve that breathes with your playing. It’s the familiar feel of a great overdrive with all the little improvements you always wished were there.
Description
If you’re comparing the ODR-1X to the original ODR-1, here’s what a working guitarist will care about: same musical character, yes—but with extra tools that make it far more adaptable.
The original ODR-1 gave you that warm, “session-room” overdrive sound that sat beautifully in a mix. The ODR-1X keeps the soul of that tone but adds three thoughtful upgrades that let you shape your sound more precisely and use it in more varied setups:
-
Adjustable Bass Cut knob: On the ODR-1X you’ll find a dedicated Bass Cut control right on the pedal face. It lets you trim or tighten the low end on-the-fly instead of just relying on the internal voicing of the original.
-
Under-the-Hood True/Buffered Bypass switch: If you run long cable runs, large rigs, or use lots of pedals, you can switch between true bypass and buffered bypass by flipping a mini-switch in the battery compartment. Something the original didn’t make so conveniently available.
-
Gain Boost switch: The ODR-1X gives you a dedicated Gain Boost mode—perfect for when you need more bite, more drive, or a solo that cuts through. The original version stays more “vintage” in its drive ceiling; here the boost gives you extra grunt when you want it.
So when you run the ODR-1X, you’re getting a pedal that not only gives you the signature ODR tone, but lets you dial it into more rigs, more styles, and more demands. Want tight rhythm on a darker amp with humbuckers? You’ve got the bass control. Need to boost for a lead? There’s the switch. Running long cables or lots of pedals? You’ve got bypass flexibility.
In practical terms:
- Feel: clearer, more articulate, more touch-sensitive than the original.
- Low end: tighter, more controlled. The ODR-1 can get pleasantly loose; the ODR-1X keeps the mud away but retains warmth.
- Gain ceiling: higher usable drive without losing note definition—thanks partly to the boost switch.
- Rig adaptability: much improved with the bass cut and bypass options.
