Oopegg Trailbreaker Mk-II w/ Tremolo in Mint with PorterTron Pickups – Supreme Collection  – Made in Japan

Professor Nigel's is an authorized Oopegg dealer. This is a brand new instrument and includes the factory gig bag, tools and full manufacturer warranty.

Professor’s Notes

This one has the same fast, alive feel that makes the Trailbreaker Mk-2 so immediately likable, but the PorterTrons give it a little more snap, openness, and percussive clarity. The voice is clear and punchy without feeling thin, with chords that stay defined and leads that hold together beautifully when pushed. Cohesive, responsive, and easy to trust, it’s the kind of guitar that can quickly become the one you reach for first.

Description

The Trailbreaker Mk-2 is built around responsiveness and balance. The semi-hollow ash and alder body keeps the feel lively and immediate, while the maple and walnut five-ply neck adds stability and a focused attack that translates well across clean and driven tones. It’s a guitar that reacts quickly to the player, with enough body and sustain to feel substantial without becoming heavy or sluggish.

A defining feature of this instrument is the PorterTron pickup set, hand-wound and assembled by Porter Pickups in Boise, Idaho, USA. These pickups are known for their clarity and punch, sitting in a musical middle ground between traditional humbuckers and more articulate single-coil-style voices. They retain fullness and authority while keeping chords defined, leads focused, and clean tones open and expressive.

In practical use, that means:

  • Clean tones stay clear and lively
  • Chords remain defined under gain
  • Leads cut without harshness
  • Picking dynamics translate naturally
  • The guitar responds quickly to touch and volume changes

Both tone pots feature a push/pull passive capacitor filter for each humbucker, adding useful additional voices to the instrument. Instead of simply rolling off highs, it subtly reshapes the midrange and treble response, tightening the attack and focusing the sound when engaged. It’s a musical, practical feature that helps the guitar adapt easily to different rigs, gain levels, and playing styles without changing the fundamental character of the instrument.

Oopegg guitars are built in small numbers by a dedicated workshop in Japan, where the focus is on feel, consistency, and real-world musical performance rather than mass production. Each instrument reflects careful hands-on work, and subtle variations in resonance and response are part of what gives these guitars their personality.
