Professor’s Notes
This is the “always on” pedal that makes your rig feel like it’s already been mixed. Leave it on for clarity, feel, and finish — then push it harder when you want the front end to bite back. This is the Blackout finish (limited edition) offered through independent dealers — same circuit, stealth aesthetics, and a clean “built-to-work” look on a board.
Description
The Warm Audio Centavo is a faithful recreation of a famously touch-sensitive overdrive circuit — loved because it can act as a subtle front-end finisher or a stronger push into other gain, depending on how you set it. It’s equally at home as an early-chain “conditioner” or as a mid-chain driver to make the next stage feel bigger and more urgent.
Professor’s Tips
- Always-on starting point: Gain low, Output up, Treble to taste. You’re aiming for “more alive,” not “more distorted.”
- Hear vs feel: The key question isn’t “how much gain?” — it’s how much do you want to hear the Centavo vs feel it? Low gain is lift + polish; higher gain becomes part of the voice.
- Use it as a “more” button: Put it before another OD/distortion to add urgency and definition without changing the core character of the next pedal.
- Best placement (in practice): Most rigs love it early as an always-on conditioner, but it also earns its keep mid-chain when you want to push the next gain stage into “more.”
