Professor’s Notes
The Mutation Phasor II is for players who want movement that feels alive—not polite shimmer. It can do syrupy, psychedelic swirl, chewy under-water wobble, and that “instant funk” pulse that makes a part lock in harder. Add the Feedback control and it stops being a phaser “effect” and starts acting like a tone instrument.
Description
The Mutation Phasor II is an electro-optical, all-analog phaser built around a classic ’70s-style circuit—wide sweep, rich motion, and a musical “throb” that never feels sterile. Where a lot of phasers live in one safe lane, this one is built to cover the whole arc: subtle dimensional lift behind clean chords, a vocal swirl around driven rhythm, and dramatic, almost synthy phase textures when you lean on Feedback.
The controls are simple but unusually powerful for a phaser:
- Rate sets the speed from extremely slow sweeps to fast wobble.
- Depth sets how wide the sweep travels—how big the motion feels.
- Feedback is the secret weapon: it sharpens and exaggerates the sweep and can take you from classic swirl into more aggressive, pronounced “wooshes.”
Professor’s Tips
- This phaser plays well with almost any rig—clean, breaking up, or fully cooking. Use Depth for “how big,” Rate for “where it sits,” and Feedback when you want the phase to step forward in the mix.
- Placement: Before dirt = smoother, more liquid swirl. After dirt = more pronounced, more dramatic motion. Both are valid—choose based on whether you want texture or statement.
- Feedback is most powerful at slower rates. If you want that chewy, elastic swirl, slow the Rate down first—then bring Feedback up until it feels vocal.
Quick Start
1) Subtle dimension (always musical, never distracting)
- Rate: 9–10 o’clock
- Depth: 9–10 o’clock
- Feedback: 0
2) Classic swirl (chewy, psychedelic movement)
- Rate: 10–11 o’clock
- Depth: 1–2 o’clock
- Feedback: 10–11 o’clock
3) Instant funk pulse (tight, rhythmic wobble)
- Rate: 1–2 o’clock
- Depth: noon
- Feedback: 0–9 o’clock
4) “Overdrive the phase” (big wooshes, dramatic texture)
- Rate: 9–10 o’clock
- Depth: 2–3 o’clock
- Feedback: 2 o’clock and up (dial to taste)
